Antigua Carnival doesn't move in a straight line — it moves in a cycle. It opens in reverence, at Emancipation Night, where music and testimony mark the true beginning of the season. It breaks into release at J'ouvert, the sunrise ritual of paint, powder and mud that no one arrives at rested. It sharpens into performance on the road — Mas, Panorama, Calypso and Party Monarch, each one a stage. And it stretches into gathering — the fetes, breakfast sessions and day parties that fill every hour between.
